Events Roundup Here is a partial list of upcoming cultural events in Coral Gables. June 25 Two chefs with restaurants in Coral Gables will be battling against each other during the Battle of the Chefs 2008 Summer Series competition. The event takes place at La Cuisine Gourmet, 50 Aragon Avenue, at 7 p.m. The chefs will be handed a bag of mystery ingredients and instructed to create a dish with those ingredients. For this battle, chefs from two premier steakhouses will go knife to knife: Chef Chris Wakeman of Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar and Chef Pedro Aguilar of Morton's the Steakhouse. June 26Visit the lush subtropical forest of Vizcaya Museum and approach the main house along a walkway lined with fountains and foliage. Discover this historic mansion like never before. June 26 – August 2 Free To Be…You and Me is the latest musical for children being performed at the Actors’ Playhouse at Miracle Theatre. The play adapted from the book, takes children on a journey to a land where you are free to be yourself. June 30, July 2, 7, 9, &12 The Coral Gables Police Department will be offering a women's self-defense program called R.A.D. (Rape, Aggression, and Defense). Certified Police instructors will teach you the basic principles and techniques to use during confrontations and personal defense. Women who want to participate can attend all weekday classes at a total cost of $65. The classes, which will be held at the Coral Gables Police Department at 2801 Salzedo Street, are scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. The class size is limited so register in advance by calling the Coral Gables Police Department's Community Affairs Unit at 305-460-5401. July 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 The Business Referral Group, a business exchange that helps members expand businesses, meets every Tuesday at 12 p.m. at Anacapri Restaurant. July 2 Have you ever tried to see the world in masses? A Conglomeration exhibit by Colombian artist Fabio Mesa presents these images on canvas. Come view the hidden patterns and symbols that quietly stretch across the masses and landscape, all carefully shaped and etched in an almost military fashion. July 3 This is your chance to listen to meet one of the brightest new stars in the jazz world.
