Need a fun summer venue for the whole family that won't break the bank? Check out Free Summer Sundays at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. The garden will open its doors and invite the public free of charge on Sundays during the month of August. This is the perfect opportunity to have a family picnic or just relax among the lush tropical foliage that has made Fairchild one of the most beautiful and premier gardens in the world. Fairchild Garden is located at 10901 Old Cutler Road and is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information, call 305-667-1651.

Looking for a way to make your résumé standout from the rest? Pat Morgan from Smooth Sailing Success Executive and Life Coaching will be hosting a Workshop on How to Create an Effective Resume. The workshop will include information on design, how to highlight your skills and play up your strengths. The course is being held at Paper Emporium, 231 Aragon Avenue, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The workshop costs $150. Join the fun every first Friday when Gables Gallery Night attracts collectors and young professionals to the art galleries, sidewalk tapas bars, fine restaurants and clubs in safe, comfortable downtown Coral Gables. Thousands of visitors can join residents at Greater Miami’s liveliest monthly event by traveling to and from galleries aboard free, air-conditioned minibuses or the City’s quaint trolleys. Enjoy complementary refreshments, stroll through exhibitions of contemporary and modern Latin American, North American, and European art, including paintings, sculptures, textiles, works on paper and photography, along with art books, in a downtown area chock full of fascinating boutiques. August 9

Camelot Salon & Spa, 2600 Galiano Street in downtown Coral Gables is sponsoring The Gold-Diggers First Annual Cut-A-Thon charity event, from noon to 4 p.m. Guests at the salon can receive a haircut for $20, blow dry for $15 – $20 and other services, with all proceeds to benefit this non-profit organization, now in its 32nd year that benefits The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of South Florida and The Food for Life Network. The Gold-Diggers is made up of 60 women from Miami-Dade and Broward counties who raise money for these charities through fall fundraisers and their annual spring musical revue. August 13

Coral Gables Congregational Church continues its Summer Concert Series with master trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis. Marsalis began playing at age 13 and produced his first recording at 17. He has since produced over 75 major-label recordings that include Harry Connick, Jr., Marcus Roberts, Spike Lee, his father Ellis Marsalis and brothers Branford and Wynton Marsalis. Marsalis will be performing at the Summer Concert Series held at the Coral Gables Congregational Church, 3010 De Soto Boulevard, at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $25 – $40. August 15 – September 13

GableStage Theater is pleased to announce the final play of its season: Speed the Plow, a hilarious, acid-etched satire that depicts Hollywood as a culture of corruption. Telling the story of two greedy Hollywood executives that are set to pitch a can't-lose deal to the studio boss, but a seductive secretary complicates everything. August 15

The new school year is just around the corner and the Summer of Fun, presented by Books & Books, is not done yet. Join us for another Summer of Fun Book Club for Kids with the say-it-loud-say-it-proud summer fun of Zorgamazoo by Robert Paul. The Area Stage Company continues its season with the USA premiere of Your Molotov Kisses, an award winning play by Gustavo Ott. Don’t miss this hilarious and provocative commentary on political incorrectness. Coral Gables residents will receive 50% off admission tickets. Through August 30

From now until the end of August, the Village of Merrick Park is honoring our four-legged friends with the month-long event, The Doggy Days of Summer. Bring your leashed dog to the pet friendly shopping destination on Sundays between 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. and enjoy special treats and in-store promotions from participating shops and restaurants including Adolfo Dominguez, Applemint, C'est Bon Café, Juicy Couture and Village.
