September 30 The University of Miami School of Architecture presents a Lecture by Robin Hill and exhibit of his stunning photographs of the Florida Southern College. The photos showcase the remarkable ensemble of buildings designed by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The exhibition and lecture are free and open to the public, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The exhibit continues until October 11. The lecture takes place at the Jorge M. October 1 – 3 The University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies hosts the 16th International Conference of the Nursing Network on Violence Against Women International. This year’s conference theme is Trajectories for Change: Creating Culturally Meaningful Interventions to Prevent and Reduce Violence. October 2 The Colombia Consulate in Miami presents the Girl from Cali exhibition, a collection of assemblages and mixed media paintings. Artist Cecilia Moreno-Yaghoubi pays homage to her personal journey as a Colombian woman re-made in America. October 2 The chamber choir Seraphic Fire takes us back to an era of secrecy with their concert The Musical Da Vinci Code: A Musician, a Message and a Pope. The local establishment Fritz & Franz Bierhaus will be celebrating the tradition started in Munich in 1810. The music festival will feature bands from Austria and Germany, traditional Bavarian food, a yodeling contest and a bratwurst eating contest. On Friday and Saturdays, the fun starts at 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Sundays from 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. For more information, click here. October 4 The Miami Pioneers and Native of Dade welcomes guest speaker Dr. Paul George at 2 p.m. The historian will present a program on the Gesu Church. Through October 4 The Lowe Art Museum has a photography exhibit underway called Through
the Lens. The exhibit features photographs from the museum's permanent collection. The
collection includes mid-19th century to present works including portraiture, landscape,
travel and contemporary idioms. Also on display are 59 images from legendary portrait photographer

here. October 7 Festival Miami 2009 presents students from the University of Miami’s Frost School of Miami performing works by student composers on the Emerging Young Composers concert. October 8 – November 8 New Theatre presents the world premiere of In Development by David Caudle. During a conference for aspiring playwrights, sex, death and dramaturgy takes center stage. October 9, 10, 16 & 17 The enchanting story of Jack and the Beanstalk will be performed on stage by the young actors of Miami Childrens Theater. There is a lot of action in this classic tale. October 11 The Miami Bach Society presents “Happy Birthday, Henry”, a Concert Celebrating the 350th Anniversary of Henry Purcell’s birth. October 11 The Miracle Walk returns to Coral Gables. The Down Syndrome Association of Miami presents the popular Miracle Walk 2009. More than 2,000 are expected to attend this fundraiser. The one-mile-walk and festival will raise funds to find a cure for Down Syndrome. The walk starts at Ponce Circle/Fred B. Through November 1 Actors’ Playhouse presents the new pop musical comedy and current off-Broadway sensation, The Marvelous Wonderettes. Featuring favorite songs from the 50s and 60s, this musical takes you to the 1958 Springfield High School prom where we meet the Wonderettes, four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts. Performances will be held Wednesday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets for weeknights and matinees are $40, and Friday and Saturday evenings are $48. The theatre offers a 10 percent senior discount rate the day of performance and $15 student rush tickets 15 minutes prior to curtain with proper I.D.
