March 3

The Miami Bach Society presents the ensemble of musician Dorothee Obrerlinger and harpsichordist Christian Reiger. Obrerlinger-Reiger will perform their first ever South Florida concert at Danielson Gallery at the Biltmore Hotel, 1200 Anastasia Avenue, at 8 p.m. This concert is part of the Tropical Baroque Festival. March 3 – April 4

An internationally acclaimed Broadway hit is coming to Coral Gables. The Actors' Playhouse at Miracle Theatre presents Miss Saigon. This classic love story is set in the turmoil of the Vietnam War. An American soldier and a Vietnamese girl fall in love, only to be separated during the fall of Saigon. Their struggles to find each other over the ensuing years creates an unparalleled drama and a must-see musical theatrical experience. March 5

The Miami Bach Society ends its Tropical Baroque Festival with Capilla de Sol: Photo Exhibit and Lecture. Capilla del Sol is a vocal-instrumental ensemble specialized in pre-classical styles, performed with original instruments and techniques, focused in Spanish and Latin American repertory. A musicologist will discuss the photo exhibit and give a lecture to take place at Comber Hall located at the Church of the Little Flower, 2711 Indian Mound Trail, at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $20 for general admission. March 5, 6, 12 & 13: The Emmy Award-winning cartoon series of the 1970s makes a comeback on the musical stage. Miami Childrens Theater presents School House Rock. Performances take place at the War Memorial Youth Center Theater, 405 University Drive, on Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. with additional performances on Saturdays at 3 p.m. Tickets cost $14 for adults and $12 for children. March 5 – April 4

New Theatre presents Equus by playwright Peter Shaffer. This is the primal and electric story of a stable boy and psychiatrist who seek to understand the sexual and religious mystery which leads to a climactic and unbelievable event. Performances take place on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 1 p.m. Tickets cost $35 for Thursday and Sunday evenings and $40 for Friday, Saturday and Sunday matinees. March 6

The Coral Gables Woman's Club invites you to participate in the Gables Gold Rush Casino Night. Dress in your best cowboy and cowgirl attire and head over to the Coral Gables Woman's Club, 1001-1009 East Ponce de Leon Boulevard, at 8 p.m. Expect a night full of fun and games, music and food. The funds raised by this event will benefit the Club's May Van Sickle Children's Dental Clinic which provides free dental services for underprivileged children ranging in age from 5 to 18. March 6

The Momentum Dance Company heads to the Coral Gables Branch Library to present a story through dance. The dance performances of Goldilocks and the Three Bears & Red Riding Hood will feature colorful costumes and upbeat, character-oriented dance movement. The classic tales will be told through music, dance and narration. This event takes place at 11 a.m. and is best for children grades Pre-K through 4th. The library is located at 3443 Segovia Street. March 6

The American Heart Association is holding its annual gala, the 2010 Heart Ball. Dance the night away at the Ball that will feature dinner and a silent auction. The announcement of the Big Heart Humanitarian Award Winners will be announced. Proceeds from this elegant celebration of life will benefit the American Heart Association. The Coral Gables Farmers Market continues offering fresh produce, gourmet specialty food, baked goods, and a variety of plants and trees for purchase. March 6 is Merrick House Day at the Market and the schedule is as follows: Tai Chi at Merrick Park (8 a.m.); a gardening workshop on Gardening Practices in Early Coral Gables (9 a.m.); a cooking demonstration by Chef Lori Moldovan who will prepare a recipe from George Merrick's boyhood time (10 a.m.); and a children's activity featuring a hands-on presentation of musical instruments and performance by the Miami String Project (11 a.m.) Schedule for March 13: Tai Chi at Merrick Park (8 a.m.); a gardening workshop on "Worm Gardening – Understand what worms can do for your soil” presented by Fertile Earth (9 a.m.); a cooking demonstration by Caffe Abbracci (10 a.m.); and children's activity on discovering the creatures and sea shells of the South Florida Eco system, presented by the Biscayne Nature Center (11 a.m.) The Market takes place in front of City Hall, 405 Biltmore Way, and runs through March 27, 2010. The Jerry Herman Ring Theatre presents Almost, Maine by John Cariani. The play is set in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine where things are not always as they seem. March 11

The University of Miami Frost Jazz Vocal Ensemble I and the Frost Symphony Orchestra present a concert directed by Timothy Buchholtz, at 8 p.m. The concert takes place at the Maurice Gusman Concert Hall, 1314 Miller Drive. General admission tickets are $15. For more information, call 305-284-5813.

March 11

Gear up for Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden's orchid festival with an Orchid Festival Preview and Art Lecture. This event is held in the garden at nightfall, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Get a sneak peak at the beautiful orchids and activities that will form part of the Orchid Festival and also learn more about the art you'll find at Fairchild. Fairchild is located at 10901 Old Cutler Road. Admission is $10 for Fairchild members, $5 for member children ages 6-17, $15 for non-members, and $8 for non-member children ages 6-17. March 12 – 14

Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is hosting its 8th Annual International Orchid Festival. The weekend-long event features over 10,000 orchid plants from more than 50 vendors. You can also explore the wonder of orchids during one of our many garden workshops and walking tours. There will also be great food and entertainment. Fairchild Garden is located at 10901 Old Cutler Road. The festival is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The cost of admission is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors 65+ and $10 for children 6-17 years of age. Admission is free for Fairchild members. March 13

The 85-member Greater Miami Symphonic Band presents its Spring Spectacular Concert with guest conductor Col. Arnald Gabriel. This special performance also features alto saxophone guest soloist Dale Underwood. The performance takes place at 8 p.m. at the Maurice Gusman Concert Hall, 1314 Miller Drive on the University of Miami Campus. Tickets are $10 for adults/$5 for students. March 14

Sunday Afternoons of Music for Children presents David Grover & the Big Bear Band: A Family Concert. This concert created especially for children will include several sing-along songs where children come to the stage to participate. Through March 28

The GableStage at the Biltmore Hotel presents the Southeastern Premiere of Blasted by Sarah Kane. Startling imagery and bleak humor create a theatrical performance complete with destruction, collapse and ultimately redemption and love. It is considered one of the most controversial and shocking plays ever produced. This play is only for adults. Performances take place on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets range from $37.50 to $45.
