Volunteer Mimi Winship will be leading the dance group every Monday and Thursday from 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. There is no previous dance experience needed. The fee per month is $10. June 7 – July 12 The Adult Activity Center is offering seniors a chance to learn the language of love. A five-week Beginner's French course is being offered Mondays from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The class is also open to those who are interested in brushing up their French. June 11 Seraphic Fire, the ensemble of professional singers, presents It Is Well With My Soul. This performance is part of Seraphic Fire's Annual Summer Gospel concerts. Expect to hear classics like Amazing Grace, Victory is Mine and I'll Fly Away. The concert takes place at First United Methodist Church, 536 Coral Way, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $35. For more information, click here. June 12 – 13 Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden presents the American Bamboo Society Caribbean Chapter Sale. During the plant sale you'll be able to see some of the best tropical bamboo from around the world. Bamboo is known for its aesthetic beauty and captivating look. It can be used for privacy, shade, as a sound barrier and a wind break. The event takes place in the Garden House at Fairchild Garden, 10901 Old Cutler Road, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission costs $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for children ages 6 - 17. Dr. Roxana Gonzalez-Pouza and Dr. Elena Ochoa will help educate women on how natural healthcare can help with pre-menopause, menopause, and post-menopause symptoms. Free health screenings will also be offered. June 17 The Coral Gables Congregational Church presents the 2010 Summer Concert Series. The season continues with Mark Kosower. The newly-appointed principal cello of the Cleveland Orchestra is hailed by musicians and critics alike for his instrumental mastery and deep musical integrity. A product of Janos Starker at Indiana University, Kosower's notable honors include Grand Prize of the Seventh Irving Klein International String Competition, first-prize at the Aspen Music Festival and the Juilliard Cello Concerto competitions, and top prizes in the Rostropovich and Pablo Casals International Cello competitions. This event is the second in a series of four which puts two top chefs from renowned local Italian restaurants against each other in a culinary battle before an audience eager to learn the various cooking methods used in preparing some of Italy's most distinctive dishes. Audience members will then vote for their favorite dish. This event takes place at 6:30 p.m. at MiaCucina, 105 Miracle Mile. A reception will immediately follow the cooking demonstration until 9:30 pm. Admission for the cooking class and festival is $45, and $10 for just the festival. The Relay for Life is a celebration of life for survivors and a poignant memorial for those who lost their fight against cancer. Supporters, survivors and caregivers will take turns walking around the Coral Gables War Memorial Youth Center field from 6 p.m. June 18 through noon on the 19th. For more information on how to participate in this event, click here. June 19 – July 18 GableStage at the Biltmore Hotel presents the southeastern premiere of Speech and Debate by Stephen Karam. This fiercely funny comedy with music asks: what do a high school debate team, predators in cyberspace and a musical version of Arthur Miller's The Crucible have in common? The answer: three teenagers who are wrestling with sex, lies and YouTube videos in this off-Broadway comic hit. Performances take place Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. On Thursdays and Sunday nights, tickets cost $37.50, Friday nights and Sunday matinees cost $42.50, and tickets for performances on Saturdays costs $45.
