January 18 – February 12

Actors' Playhouse will be featuring an emotional powerhouse musical about a family trying to take care of themselves and each other. Next to Normal centers on one woman's struggle with manic depression and the toll it takes on her family. Performances take place Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. with 2 p.m. performances on Sundays and Saturdays. Actors' Playhouse is located at 280 Miracle Mile. For more information, click here.

January 22

Red Grammer is considered one of the premier entertainers of children and families in America. He is described by Parents Magazine as the best voice in children's music and fortunately, he is bringing his act to Sunday Afternoons of Music with Children. BeBop Your Best is a musical performance that playfully reconnects each one of us with the best in ourselves. The show will take place at the University of Miami's Maurice Gusman Concert Hall, 1314 Miller Drive at 3 p.m. Tickets cost $12 for adults and $10 for children. For more information, click here.

January 23

The University of Miami presents Dr. Anthony E. Fiorato, guest lecturer who will talk about “Engineering Standards: A Check on Fools and Rascals.”  The lecture will focus on engineering standardization as a way to provide clear criteria for defining materials, design criteria, manufacturing and construction practices, and test methods. The lecture takes place on Monday, January 23, 3:30-4:30 p.m. at the McArthur Engineering Annex, Room MEA202 in the Coral Gables campus. For more information, call 305-284-3667.

January 26

Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, together with Neiman Marcus, will host Splendor in the Garden. The afternoon will feature a reception in the Garden sponsored by Nicolas Feuillatte champagne followed by a seated luncheon and formal fashion show produced by Neiman Marcus Senior Vice President and Fashion Director, Ken Downing. Fairchild Garden is located at 10901 Old Cutler Road. All proceeds will benefit Fairchild's numerous programs in conservation, science, children's education and research. January 27 – February 12

New Theatre presents the world premiere of Winter by Robert Caisley. What begins as a scheduling headache for twin sisters arranging their mother's funeral evolves into an all-out blood feud between the siblings and their mother's mysterious, young live-in assistant. Performances take place Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 1 p.m. with additional performances on select Sundays at 5:30 p.m. Tickets cost $35 for Thursday and Sunday performances, and $40 for all other performances. January 28

The Coral Gables Community Foundation announces its Third Annual Tour of Kitchens. The popular tour showcases some of Coral Gables' most spectacular designer kitchens. The event offers several cooking demonstrations and tastings created by chefs operating in the kitchens being showcased. The tour will also include a Champagne & Dessert Soiree at the Coral Gables Museum between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. with regional celebrity chefs, food consultants and authors providing demonstrations, signing books and offering tips for success in the kitchen. Tickets cost $50. Proceeds from this event will benefit several programs including a scholarship opportunity for an outstanding culinary arts student. January 28

The Farmers Market is back! This week, enjoy farm-fresh produce, baked goods, a variety of plants and more. Other activities include live music, a free Tai Chi class at 8 a.m., a free gardening workshop at 9 a.m. presented by Andres Mejides regarding setting up an organic-raised bed garden, a master chef demonstration at 10 a.m. from Morton's The Steakhouse, and a children's activity at 11 a.m. hosted by Parks and Recreation where children will create a cute craft project to take home. The Market is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of City Hall, 405 Biltmore Way. For more information call the Parks and Recreation Department at 305-460-5600.

Through January 29

The Area Stage Company & Theatre Conservatory presents the Florida professional premiere of Snoopy! The Musical. Join Charlie Brown, Peppermint Patty, and the rest of the Peanuts gang in a romp through the struggles and joys that they endure in their daily life. The shows are scheduled for Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Tickets cost $25 - $35 for general admission and $10 - $15 for students with proper ID. Through February 5

GableStage presents the southeastern premiere of the Broadway hit The Mother F**ker with the Hat by Stephen Adley Guirgis. The play centers on Jackie who is just out of jail and trying to stay clean and sober. He turns to his AA sponsor when he suspects his longtime girlfriend, who is still into drugs, of cheating on him. His proof: a man's hat has been left on the nightstand. This Broadway hit, a fast and furious study of lives in collision, is a bruising and very funny dance of love, betrayal and indecision. Performances take place Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. GableStage is located at the Biltmore Hotel, 1200 Anastasia Avenue.
